Historic 400 Theater in Rogers Park Set to Reopen Under Michigan Exhibitor's Vision
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Rogers Park ·
Rogers Park's beloved 400 Theater is getting a second chance at cinematic glory as Michigan-based exhibitor Jordan Stancil has officially leased the historic venue at 6746 N. Sheridan Road. The 113-year-old theater, which was Chicago's oldest continuously operating movie house until its closure in 2023, will soon welcome film enthusiasts back to its storied halls.
Stancil, who currently operates three historic movie theaters in Michigan including the family-owned Rialto Theater in Grayling (established 1915), plans to revitalize this Rogers Park institution with new projection technology and diverse programming. The theater will feature a thoughtful mix of first-run studio releases alongside independent and foreign films, plus community events. "Everyone is excited to honor The 400 Theater's unique place in the Rogers Park community," said Stancil. "Independent theaters enrich local culture by offering spaces for shared experiences."
While an exact reopening date hasn't been announced, neighborhood residents can follow the theater's Facebook page for updates on the timeline and upcoming programming. The revival represents a significant cultural addition to Rogers Park, preserving a cornerstone establishment that has been part of the neighborhood's identity for over a century and adding to the vibrant arts scene that includes the nearby Glenwood Avenue Arts District.
