Graceland West Launches Innovative 'Pollinator Pathway' Project for Winter 2026

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·

The Graceland West Community Association (GWCA) has kicked off an innovative neighborhood sustainability initiative with the expansion of their Native Plant Pollinator Pathway & Stormwater Absorption Sites project for winter 2026. The community-led effort aims to transform more parkways and public spaces throughout the neighborhood with native plants that support local pollinators while helping reduce stormwater runoff.

Warner Park and Gardens, already a centerpiece of the neighborhood's green infrastructure, will receive additional native plantings as part of the 2026 expansion. The project builds on Graceland West's impressive track record of sustainable landscaping, which previously featured 40 neighborhood gardens and green spaces during their 35th Garden Walk. Residents can apply for the upcoming planting season through a special grant program that will provide native plant materials, with the 2026 application portal opening later this month.

"Through this initiative, we're strengthening biodiversity and connecting our community through sustainable urban gardening," explained a GWCA representative. "We're committed to restoring urban ecosystems by transforming underutilized spaces into thriving native gardens that benefit both residents and wildlife." Community members interested in participating can attend an upcoming information session at Quantum LEEP Academy or visit the GWCA website for details on how to volunteer or register a property for the spring planting program.
